I have set up 6 albums in the Faces section of Photos. Whenever I add new photos to my MacBook Pro I have to add the photos to the correct Faces album. Is there no way for Photos to scan and predict which faces album to add the new photos to?

When you open the Faces album, the strip of images at the bottom are Suggested Faces. Select one or more faces there and confirm if the suggestion is accurate. If the confirm face is part of a very similar photos, the confirmation will be applied automatically to all those images.
Okay...but when I add new photos of that person do they not automatically get added to their album?
No, you have to confirm if the face-recognition engine got it right. They are far from being infallible.
